Parking Be Damned!

 Am I the only one in Montgomery who hates the Downtown parking meters that require you to use a credit card?

There are plenty of people who are NOT going to download an "app" just to be able to park!

Some of them include a warning NOT to use coins, even though there is a coin slot in the damned things. And if you don't have a smart phone, they give you a phone number to call! What if you don't have a cell phone?

Where are the senior citizen groups protesting?

60 Years After a KKK Attack At The Montgomery Greyhound Station.

 

The Freedom Rides Museum is reflected in the windshield of a restored Greyhound bus that is now part of the museum's exhibit.

 

 The former Greyhound Bus Station, now The Freedom Rides Museum in Montgomery, Alabama.

 The restored Bus, which will be used as an outreach for the museum. It is not known to have carried Freedom Riders, but it is of the correct era.

 

 

 The  Greyhound station where riders and journalists were beaten by KKK members. Montgomery Police were told to look the other way, to give the klan terrorists a chance to attack. They did.

Because of Covid (???) or the threat against confederate memorials, the entire capital building is surrounded by gates.
I shot these of the Confederate Memorial on the Capitol Grounds from the street.

The story behind the memorial is fascinating. And it takes on an entirely new meaning these days, with renewed questions about WHY there are so many memorials to the war against the United States.

2019---The church where Dr. Martin Luther King was pastor, on Dexter Avenue in Montgomery, reflected in the RSA office building across the street, which encapsulates the old State Supreme Court building where lawyers for King argued a number of important Civil Rights cases.
